Let’s be clear.  All congressional members, Democrats and Republicans need to act and call out Jerry Nadler (D-NY) on his despicable and disqualifying behaviour.

Tell your House Representative to strip Jerry Nadler of his committee assignments

Congress cannot remain silent while a sitting Member of Congress rationalizes violence against the good men and women serving in federal law enforcement. During a congressional hearing, U.S. House Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY), a 34-year incumbent, attempted to justify the shooting of federal agents by declaring:

“The attacks on American citizens by masked hoodlums. If you were attacked by a masked person, you might think you’re being kidnapped. You’d be justified in shooting the person.”

Nadler’s statement was a malicious and dangerous justification for shooting federal law enforcement officers carrying out their lawful duties.

Let’s be clear: there is nothing “justified” about shooting federal agents. Ever. Suggesting otherwise, especially from Congress, is wildly irresponsible and puts lives at risk across our great nation. Jerry Nadler crossed a red line, and he must be held accountable.

Members of Congress have a duty to never legitimize unlawful violence. Nadler’s comments normalize the idea that you can attack federal officers based on subjective perception or emotions alone. That standard is morally bankrupt and operationally catastrophic.

This is not a partisan question. It is a question of whether Congress will enforce any baseline standard of conduct for its Members, or whether justifying violence against federal law enforcement is now acceptable.

Jerry Nadler’s behavior is despicable and disqualifying. House Republicans must act.

Strip Jerry Nadler of all committee assignments immediately. No excuses. No delay. If Congress refuses to hold him accountable, Members should be prepared to explain to their constituents why justifying the shooting of federal agents is not beyond the pale.
