UnitedHealthcare has fired a social media manager after she posted a TikTok video expressing disappointment that Saturday night’s assassination attempt on President Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner had failed — a move that drew immediate backlash given the company’s own recent history with political violence.
Alison King, identified as a social media manager for UnitedHealthcare, posted a video in which she described her reaction to news of the shooting: “You know we’re cooked as a country when my first reaction to hearing the news about Trump’s attempt was — it was probably fake.” She then added that her second reaction was disappointment the shooter had missed. The National Desk King’s LinkedIn account was deleted shortly after the video began circulating widely online.
Utah Senator Mike Lee was among the first prominent voices to call out the post, tagging UnitedHealth on X and asking the company to respond. The video was also amplified by the Libs of TikTok account, which has a large following on the platform. Washington Times
UnitedHealth Group confirmed the termination in a statement to Newsweek Tuesday morning: “Violence is never acceptable and any comments that suggest otherwise are in no way consistent with our mission and values. The person who made comments online about Saturday night’s incident at a Washington event where President Trump and many other political leaders were gathered is no longer employed by the company.” The National Desk
The firing carries a particular sting given the company’s recent history. UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was gunned down outside a Manhattan hotel in December 2024 in what prosecutors described as a politically motivated murder. A senior UnitedHealth employee told the Daily Wire that company leadership moved to initiate the termination process immediately upon seeing King’s video. Washington Times
King’s case is not isolated. An Ohio teacher was also terminated this week after a separate video surfaced in which she appeared to lament Trump’s survival of the shooting, underscoring the growing scrutiny of public reactions to political violence in the days since the Correspondents’ Dinner attack.
