White House Locked Down Again After Secret Service Shoots Man Near Washington Monument
The White House was placed on lockdown Monday afternoon after the Secret Service shot a man near the Washington Monument — the second security incident near the executive mansion in eight days.
The shooting occurred at 15th Street and Independence Avenue in Washington, near the Sidney R. Yates building where the Forest Service is headquartered. The Secret Service confirmed one individual was shot by law enforcement; their condition was initially unknown. Several roadways near the Washington Monument were closed, including portions of Independence Avenue and 15th Street. Wisconsin Examiner

DC police declared the scene “secure” shortly after the incident. Details on what led to the shooting — including whether the individual was armed or posed a specific threat — were not immediately released.
The lockdown came exactly one week after Cole Tomas Allen, 31, stormed the security perimeter of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton and opened fire, striking a Secret Service agent’s bullet-resistant vest. Allen is now charged with attempted assassination of the president and faces up to life in prison. Also Monday, a federal magistrate judge questioned why Allen had been placed on restrictive suicide watch at the DC jail, noting that the jail routinely houses convicted killers without 24-hour lockdown. Allen’s lawyers said he had not shown suicidal risk factors after his arrest. Urban MilwaukeeRacine County Eye
