Standard underground utility marking colors per the APWA (American Public Works Association) uniform color code:

Red — Electric power lines, cables, conduit, and lighting cables

Yellow — Gas, oil, steam, petroleum, or gaseous materials

Orange — Communications, alarm or signal lines, cables, or conduit (telephone, cable TV, fiber optic)

Blue — Potable water

Green — Sewers and drain lines

Purple — Reclaimed water, irrigation, and slurry lines

Pink — Temporary survey markings, unknown/unidentified facilities

White — Proposed excavation limits or route

These are the “Call 811 before you dig” colors used across the U.S. White marks are typically made by the excavator to show where digging is planned; the colored marks are then made by utility companies in response.
